State overall income continues down, but personal income tax collections now up

Missouri state Budget Director Linda Luebbering said in an interview that'there is a glimmer of good news in the state's otherwise dismal March income numbers, which showed the state's revenue collections down by 17.8 percent, compared to March 2009. The positive sign? For the first time in months, individual income tax collections increased -- up 2.7 percent this March, compared to a year ago. For the current fiscal year, state overall income remains'down 13.3 percent, compared to a year ago.

Stronger-than-expected candidate filing numbers may reflect GOP surge, Democratic slump

Early'reports to the contrary, this year's final candidate tally in Missouri is the largest since 2002 -- even outpacing those in the last two presidential-election years. The chief reason? A last-minute filing surge by Republican candidates, who comprise the largest bloc in at least a decade. In contrast, Missouri Democrats offer the lowest number of candidates at least since 2000 for state, legislative or congressional offices.
