Hearing on K-State biolab postponed: "
A potential showdown between the Department of Homeland Security and the Governmental Accountability Office over the safety of the K-State biolab known as NBAF has been postponed.
The hearing, originally set for Thursday, would have dealt with GAOs concerns that natural and other potential diasters at the Manhattan, Ks. side are not completely understood.
In fact, GAO has suggested some kinds of dangerous animal pathogen research might be unsafe anywhere on the mainland.
Kansans -- and DHS -- were expected to defend the choice of K-State for the $650 million structure -- officially the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility -- which should become operable in the mid-2010s.
No date has been set for the hearing.
